Wonderful original illustration of a lion in watercolour in mixed media heightened with gilt pen. 12.6 x 17.8 cm

I bought the item at a charity auction. To find out more I emailed Jane Ray. Her reply:

thanks for your email - so glad you like the lion!

The image is based on a little bronze sculpture of a lion that caught my eye in the British Museum. 

It was an experiment for a possible book which hasn't yet seen the light of day. I think it was Ancient Sumerian...

I loved the pose. The facial features were probably not quite as sweet and friendly as my version...!
